For centuries, Hindus have called it the nectar of God, believing that just a drop brings salvation. Now it comes as a new vintage for water goblets: water from the Ganges River. Two Indian businessmen have built a plant high in the Himalayas to bottle Ganges water for sale in India and abroad. And they’re unfazed at the prospect of competing with better-known mineral waters. “This is something much more superior,” said Ved Prakash Gupta, one of the partners in the venture. According to Gupta, this water is not only clean, refreshing and liver-friendly. It’s holy. The brand name is Ganga Jal, the respectful term for holy water in the Hindi language. The Ganges is one of the world’s filthiest rivers, but the pollution starts downstream from the plant, in the densely populated plains. “Ganga Jal” is drawn from the fountainhead of the river at an elevation of 8,550 feet near the town of Gangotri--190 miles north of New Delhi. Gupta and his partner, Ashok Gupta, say drinking their bottled water can ease symptoms of cholera, diarrhea, asthma, diabetes, migraine, high blood pressure and acne. Less open to question is the claim that it’s also good for dehydration. Since Ganga Jal is expensive, the bottlers suggest diluting it in a gallon of tap water or somebody else’s brand. In India it sells for 5 rupees (19 cents) per 6-ounce packet. It costs more than a bottle of cola or a pint of milk. The sanctity of the water is an important part of the marketing, especially in predominantly Hindu India. The Guptas, who are not related, say they have sold $8,760 worth of the water since August. The first shipment abroad--worth $10,000--went in September to an Indian department store owner in Florida. https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1992-01-26-mn-1392-story.html

I have just placed the Attorney-General on notice as Tean's Defence Counsel of Tean's intention to commence contempt of court proceedings against the Director of CAD, Investigation Officer Desmond Toh and the three officers who unlawfully arrested Lim Tean as the subject matter of the investigation is related to a state court proceeding (civil case) which is being further heard in open court on 27th October where I will be appearing for Tean in his place to defend him against his opponent lawyer Mr.Joseph Chen. I will be commencing other actions against Mr Chen including complaints to be filed tomorrow to law society by Miss L F Violet Netto, Lim Tean and myself on various matters relating to the conduct of Mr Joseph Chen as provided by the statutory mechanism under the Legal Profession Act. In the meantime, I have separately placed CAD on notice today that I will commence Judicial Review application if I don't hear from them within the next 48 hours as to whether they will hold their investigation pending Tean Lim's Judicial Review action against CAD on account of the whole investigative process being irreversibly tainted arising from the unlawful conduct of CAD and the officers in question. More details to follow when I commence the aforesaid actions shortly as Lim Tean's counsel. Lim Tean wants the above letters to AG and CAD today to be made public which I have attached below : #JusticeForLimTean

PUTRAJAYA: Former Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng has been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in connection with the undersea tunnel project. He will be charged tomorrow. The DAP secretary-general and former finance minister will be charged at the Kuala Lumpur special corruption court tomorrow morning under Section 16 (a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009. And on Aug 10, he will be charged under Section 23 of the same act at the Penang Sessions Court. However MACC did not provide details of the charge. Lim had earlier arrived at the MACC headquarters here at 9.10pm. Lim, who is also the Bagan MP, had been called in by MACC several times in recent weeks over the agency’s investigation into the RM6.3 billion undersea tunnel and highways project that forms part of the Penang Transport Master Plan. Last month, MACC chief Azam Baki said the investigation was centred on possible money laundering. He said he expected the investigation to end in two to three weeks. https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/nation/2020/08/06/macc-arrests-guan-eng-over-penang-undersea-tunnel-project/

Lawyer Imran Rahim, 32, has released a public statement addressing the recent allegations of sexual misconduct against him. His statement came less than two hours after it was reported that he was investigated by his law firm and is currently on a leave of absence. Imran wrote that he does not know why he has been the subject of attacks and is working with his company on internal investigations. Law firm Tan Kok Quan Partnership (TKQP) told Today on July 23 that it is investigating allegations of sexual misconduct against Imran. Allegations of improper conduct by Imran were made by Reform Party member Charles Yeo on July 21. Yeo put up videos and written posts on Instagram accusing Imran of improper conduct, and highlighting that he is an active volunteer in the community who had been praised by Cabinet ministers before in speeches. Yeo's video that runs for 35 minutes is still up online. Some of the allegations appear to have been about incidents that happened some time ago and involved debaters who are members of the opposite sex. Imran, a renowned debater, is a senior associate at the law firm dealing with commercial litigation and dispute resolution. He graduated with a law degree from the National University of Singapore in 2013. https://mothership.sg/2020/07/imran-rahim-statement
