WP's victory speech after winning Sengkang GRC
PAP's loser speech after being trumped by WP at Sengkang GRC (ok NCM was gracious, I'll give him that)
GE2020: PAP wins with 61.24% of vote; WP claims two GRCs including new Sengkang GRC
SINGAPORE: The People’s Action Party (PAP) has clinched 61.24 per cent of the votes in this year’s General Election, but a swing to the Opposition saw the Workers’ Party (WP) make inroads into Parliament by claiming its second Group Representation Constituency (GRC) in polls held amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The ruling party won 83 seats out of an available 93. The victory saw the PAP’s vote share slide by close to nine percentage points from the last General Election, where it garnered 69.9 per cent of the votes.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong acknowledged that despite winning the mandate, the percentage of the popular vote was not as high as he had hoped for.
“Nevertheless, the results reflect broad-based support for the PAP,” Mr Lee said at a press conference marking the end of the election. “Singaporeans understand what is at stake and why we must come together to uphold our national interests.”
“I will use this mandate responsibly to deal with COVID-19 and the economic downturn to take us through the crisis safely and beyond," he added.
In the 2015 General Election, the PAP secured 83 seats out of 89 seats in 29 constituencies.
With the WP’s victory in the newly formed four-member Sengkang GRC, this election marks the first time that an opposition party will hold two GRCs since the GRC scheme came into effect in 1988.
With 52.13 per cent of the votes, the Sengkang team comprising Jamus Lim, Raeesah Khan, He Ting Ru and Louis Chua edged out the PAP’s team that included labour chief Ng Chee Meng, political office-holders Lam Pin Min and Amrin Amin as well as lawyer Raymond Lye, who is a new face this election.
The WP also retained the five-member Aljunied GRC - where it increased its vote share by nine percentage points - and Hougang Single-Member Constituency (SMC).
This year’s election was also contested by the newly formed Progress Singapore Party (PSP) led by former PAP Member of Parliament (MP) Tan Cheng Bock, who set up the party last year. The party contested 24 seats in four GRCs and five SMCs, the most among all the opposition parties.
In one of the closest battles of the night, Dr Tan’s team finished with 48.31 per cent of the votes in West Coast GRC, just 3.38 percentage points behind the PAP. In 2015, the PAP team there won 78.57 per cent of the votes against the Reform Party (RP).
For the second time in Singapore’s history, all seats were contested, with two constituencies - Pioneer SMC and Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC - seeing three-cornered fights. Altogether, there were 10 opposition parties and one independent candidate who vied for a spot in Parliament.
A total of 2,535,565 votes, including rejected votes, were cast in what was the country’s 13th election since independence. This made up 95.63 per cent of the 2,651,435 registered electors, the largest turnout since 1997.

Heartwarming gesture by private home owner on polling day:
Just for laughs
Looking at this makes me feel like crying.
PAP jin xia suay!
Singapore GE2020: All 93 seats to be contested at July 10 election; 192 candidates from 11 parties file papers on Nomination Day
SINGAPORE - For the second general election in a row, there will be contests in all seats, of which there are 93 this time.
Nomination Day on Tuesday (June 30) saw a total of 192 candidates file papers to contest every seat in 17 group representation constituencies (GRCs) and 14 single-member constituencies (SMCs). With no walkovers, it means all 2.65 million eligible voters will soon receive polling cards to let them vote on July 10.
The ruling People's Action Party (PAP) is the only party with candidates contesting every seat.
Though the day was missing some of the atmosphere of previous Nomination Days, as no crowds were allowed to gather on account of safe distancing rules, there was still some drama and surprises.
Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat has moved from his Tampines stronghold to anchor the PAP team in East Coast GRC, answering one of the biggest question marks leading up to Nomination Day.
He replaces former Manpower Minister Lim Swee Say, who is retiring from politics.
Mr Heng's team is likely to see a keen battle against the Workers' Party (WP), which won 45.2 per cent of the vote in the 2011 General Election and 39.3 per cent in 2015.
Minister for Social and Family Development Desmond Lee moved from Jurong GRC to shore up the PAP team in West Coast GRC, helmed by Minister for Communications and Information S. Iswaran.
They will go head to head against the Progress Singapore Party's (PSP) "A" team led by former PAP stalwart Tan Cheng Bock, whose former Ayer Rajah ward is now part of West Coast GRC.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong told reporters the PAP will fight for every vote. "Every constituency is contested, so this is not a by-election. It's a general election for the most important issues concerning the country at the moment of crisis. And I think everybody needs to understand that, everybody must have that in mind when they assess the votes," he said at the nomination centre at Deyi Secondary School.

This piece of arse probably forgot to bring along a page of his prepared script and hence fumbled big time. He's a fucking embarrassment and liability to the PAP; vote him out so Sinkies can have the PM they deserve - Shiny bald head Tharman!
I'm still laughing at this. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Stroke Heng so poor thing kenna cut off just as about he was about to deliver his speech in Mandarin.
His actual name is Shawn Ingkiriwang, probably a former Indonesian.
Ivan Lim quit GE liao. Next up, Shawn Huang who is also fielded by the PAP doesn't seem to be a nice human being either.

It appears Ivan Lim is immensely disliked. He should come out to clarify matters before his reputation ends up permanently in the sewers.
PAP scrapes the bottom of the barrel by fielding arrogant, pseudo-elitist (graduated from SP and second rate University of Newcastle Upon Tyne) bastard Lim Shaw Chuan who works as a GM at Keppel Offshore & Marine. Lest you think he is some corporate big fuck, let it be known GMs are aplenty within Keppel's organizational structure.
Just look at his guai lan bin and the barrage of online comments disparaging him, do you really think he sincerely wants to serve Sinkies?

Singapore PM’s brother Lee Hsien Yang joins opposition party ahead of July 10 election
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s estranged younger brother Lee Hsien Yang has formally joined the ambitious new Progress Singapore Party (PSP) formed by an establishment rebel, in the first major twist ahead of the country’s July 10 general election.
Lee, 62, joined the PSP’s leader Tan Cheng Bock in an early morning walkabout on Wednesday morning in the Tiong Bharu market.
Wearing a red-and-white party T-shirt and cap, the former corporate figure remained coy on his plans, saying voters would find out whether he would contest the polls when he was “ready to disclose”.
Asked how he would contribute to the party, he said “it’s not difficult to guess”.
“I joined the party because I think that Dr Tan is committed to doing the right thing for Singapore and Singaporeans and he loves the country. And he has brought together a group of people who share his vision which I believe will build a better Singapore,” he said.
Lee added that he was concerned about a range of issues, including governance standards in the country and income inequality.
Tan meanwhile said the younger Lee had joined the party about three months ago but was only handed his membership card on Wednesday due to the coronavirus pandemic.
He said it gave him “great pleasure” to welcome Lee to the party.
“He is not just an ordinary person. His father [Lee Kuan Yew] is the founder of Singapore,” said Tan. “The fact that he decided to join us is a clear indication that the current team did not follow what his dad wanted.”
As the children of the country’s revered independence leader Lee Kuan Yew, the Lee siblings are considered part of the island state’s “First Family”. Prime Minister Lee leads the long-ruling People’s Action Party (PAP) co-founded by their father.
The brothers have been publicly at odds with each other since 2017 over the fate of the late patriarch’s bungalow. Last July, Lee Hsien Yang said he “wholeheartedly” supported the newly formed PSP.
Tan, 80, was a vocal dissenter within the PAP during his 1980-2006 tenure as a backbench MP, and he nearly defeated the ruling party’s preferred candidate in a presidential poll in 2011.
The veteran politician said he formed the new party as he was concerned about the erosion of accountability and governance standards after long years of PAP rule in the city state.
Earlier, the PSP – which is one of 12 opposition parties expected to contest the polls – said it would field 24 candidates in the election.

Gentlemen, I trust that you've heard the awesome announcement made yesterday? Our good friend Lee Hsien Loong has decided to call elections within SIXTEEN DAYS from now.
As the age old saying goes "Never let a good crisis go to waste". LHL hopes to take advantage of the ongoing pandemic to secure PAP's right to govern so it could resolutely deal with the next 5 years ahead. But does he and his party deserve to lord over us with near absolute powers for another half a decade?
Regarding the Coronavirus, I have done some math myself and boy them scary figures say we aren't faring too well. With roughly 7,525.5 per million people having caught Covid-19, we are probably among the worst hit countries of Asia insofar as infection rates are concerned. While the number of locals infected is low, the virus is still spreading like wildfire among migrant workers housed in cramped quarters all along. Which moron at the Manpower Ministry decided at the onset it was optimal to squeeze the most men into the least available space like cattle ripe for slaughter? Our economy has been going flat for a bit now, however she'll be seeing red with GDP growth dipping into negative territory by a staggering 4.7% based on various expert forecasts. Mind you, we still have another half a year to endure. Looking back, you don't simply just order everything to shut down out of health concerns, then selectively open up some businesses and expect overall liquidity in the economy to remain unaffected. Several reputable enterprises have since permanently closed as a consequence of not having enough cash reserves to pay for rentals and various operating costs incurred during the circuit breaker period.
Restaurants of varying caliber, the KidZania theme Park in Sentosa plus countless small and medium sized businesses from various sectors painstakingly built with blood and sweat.... they have all gone six feet under whilst many more are poised to drop dead like flies and the PAP expects us to give them another 5 years to run a rudderless ship of their own making?
Deeply troubling moments abound no doubt, then again you might say "Why should I make the effort to consider an alternative party at the ballot box this time round? What makes this election season different? Surely their trademark artificial smiles and "tears" will calm me sufficiently just to win my vote? Well... as the circuit breaker period has already seen numerous political chieftains and high profile associates from the MIW camp completely discard their typical facade of benevolence, I wouldn't be surprised if one of them walks right up to you and demand your support in the most passive aggressive manner. It may perhaps sound gentle, but fear the intent lining his/her words.
Don't get me started on POFMA, a piece of legislation meant to stem fake news which is instead being used to arbitrarily rein in critics (it has sure racked up quite a victim count that included prominent names such as Thum Ping Tjin, Brad Bowyer and Chee Soon Juan). Yesterday, the mainstream media even erroneously slammed Lim Tean as a potential bankruptee when in reality he was in the midst of settling business debts he incurred as a private citizen.
How can we go on like this? During these uncertain, dark and gloomy times what we do not need is give the Lightning Party a stronger mandate for their pleasure to pummel us further into the ground. What we need are more opposition folks in Parliament to keep them on their toes. Singapore deserves leaders who have a pulse of the common people, not short-sighted, grossly overpaid nincompoops stuck high up in their ivory towers.
I can't say this enough: one vote can make a helluva difference, a whole lot of them together could guarantee an entirely new outcome. I therefore ask you to shed your fears and vote based on what you hold dear to your heart. You are only free to criticize and walk your own path. Freedom only requires that you have courage to exercise it.
I hope to see you getting out there to fight for what matters come polling day! Justin
