PM Wong unveils first full Cabinet: No second DPM, three coordinating ministers named

SINGAPORE: Less than three weeks after the General Election where the ruling People's Action Party (PAP) won a resounding victory, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced his first full Cabinet lineup on Wednesday (May 21).

The new Cabinet marks a significant reshuffle that includes three coordinating ministers and confirms Mr Gan Kim Yong as the sole deputy prime minister. It also features 15 full ministers and two acting ministers across the Prime Minister’s Office and 16 ministries.

This is the first complete team formed under Mr Wong since he succeeded Mr Lee Hsien Loong last year.

Mr Wong, who remains the finance minister, also appointed nine new political office holders, drawn from the backbench and among first-term MPs – a number he described as “one of the highest in recent history”.

Mr Wong said he has “a solid team behind me”, highlighting that he has four senior leaders, comprising one deputy and three…

Finally....that good-for-nothing Josephine Teo has decided to come out to speak on the NRIC brouhaha

'We are very sorry': Government apologises for confusion, anxiety over NRIC unmasking saga

SINGAPORE: The government apologised to the public on Thursday (Dec 19) for the saga over unmasking National Registration Identity Card (NRIC) numbers

“We are very sorry to have caused them much anxiety,” said Minister for Digital Development and Information Josephine Teo at a press conference, adding that the public’s concerns are taken seriously.

“We had wanted to give them better protection, and this required a change in our policy involving the use of NRIC numbers, because the current situation leaves us vulnerable.”

The government had intended to make the change only after explaining to citizens the rationale but before it could do so, the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) went ahead and launched its Bizfile portal, with a search function that produced people's names and full NRIC numbers.

Josexfiend Teo is raising minimum salary for Employment Pass to to $4,500!!!!!

SINGAPORE - From Sept 1, firms applying for new Employment Passes (EPs) for foreign professionals will need to pay them at least $4,500, up from $3,900 now.

The qualifying salaries for older and more experienced candidates in their 40s will also be raised so that these remain around double the minimum salary for the youngest applicants, said the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) on Thursday (Aug 27).

In addition, new EP holders in the financial services sector will need to be paid at least $5,000 from Dec 1. This is the first time the ministry has announced a sector-specific higher qualifying salary.

Josephine Teo is only part of the problem – making her a scapegoat is not the solution

Manpower Minister Josephine Teo has been stealing the limelight for all the wrong reasons, bearing the brunt of intense criticism over the explosion of COVID-19 cases among migrant workers. Each time she opens her mouth, she seems to incur the ire of netizens. Many have called for her resignation. But what do we have to gain by making a scapegoat out of Josephine Teo? The COVID-19 multi-ministry taskforce is after all co-chaired by Ministers Gan Kim Yong and Lawrence Wong – they were the ones who earned high praise from Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in the early days of the pandemic. They therefore have to shoulder the blame when things take a drastic turn for the worse. If we single out Josephine Teo as THE PROBLEM, we could be letting the rest off the hook. In reality, the entire team has failed the COVID-19 leadership test. What is happening to Josephine bears some similarity to the plight of Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew in 2015. The Transport Ministry then was a hot potato because the SMRT was plagued with massive breakdowns and regular service disruptions. Lui resigned one month before the 2015 general election, which the People’s Action Party (PAP) won handsomely. Lui became the fall guy. But the SMRT debacle got even worse under his successor Khaw Boon Wan who was only able to ride it out because he was much better than Lui at playing taichi and the blame game. So what difference does it make whether Josephine goes or stays? The system stays the same. Instead of making her a scapegoat, we should see her as the product of a system that produces a general turned Trade and Industry Minister who thinks that cotton comes from sheep, an electrical engineer turned Health Minister whose key COVID-19 contribution is coining the term “circuit breaker,” and a Prime Minister who is fond of casting doom and gloom, warning Singaporeans last night that we now live in a “more dangerous world,” and by implication are better off with the PAP. https://www.onlinecitizenasia.com/2020/06/08/josephine-teo-is-only-part-of-the-problem-making-her-a-scapegoat-is-not-the-solution/
