PM Wong unveils first full Cabinet: No second DPM, three coordinating ministers named

SINGAPORE: Less than three weeks after the General Election where the ruling People's Action Party (PAP) won a resounding victory, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced his first full Cabinet lineup on Wednesday (May 21).

The new Cabinet marks a significant reshuffle that includes three coordinating ministers and confirms Mr Gan Kim Yong as the sole deputy prime minister.ย It also features 15 full ministers and two acting ministers across the Prime Ministerโ€™s Office and 16 ministries.

This is the first complete team formed under Mr Wong since he succeeded Mr Lee Hsien Loong last year.

Mr Wong, who remains the finance minister, also appointed nine new political office holders, drawn from the backbench and among first-term MPsย โ€“ a number he described as โ€œone of the highest in recent historyโ€.

Mr Wong said he has โ€œa solid team behind meโ€, highlighting that he has four senior leaders, comprising one deputy and threeโ€ฆ

SINGAPORE โ€“ Singapore will have a new prime minister on May 15, with Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong set to take over from Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on that day.

The date for the handover was announced in a statement from the Prime Ministerโ€™s Office on April 15, a key detail in Singaporeโ€™s long-planned leadership transition from the third-generation to the fourth-generation (4G) political team.

After he is sworn in at 8pm on May 15 at the Istana, DPM Wong, who entered politics 13 years ago, will be Singaporeโ€™s fourth prime minister.

In a Facebook post, PM Lee said leadership transition is a significant moment for any country.

Lawrence Wong, Stop the Fake Camaraderie and Humility; You Are Not My Brother!

It has always been a favourite PAP tactic to show fake concern for the plight of Singaporeans and claim a false solidarity while doing their level best to undermine them and provide advantages to their competitors. This yearโ€™s May Day Speech by Lawrence Wong, eager Seatwarmer-in-Waiting to PM Lee, was no exception.

Enough already with this fake solidarity with the workers.. Start with the hypocrisy of PAP leaders and Ministers earning $2-3 million a year while addressing ordinary workers as Brother. Everything about them is elitist and out of touch with the concerns of the average Singaporean yet they have the audacity to pretend that they stand with you and have your interests at heart. Ask Lawrence Wong and LHL how often they travel by public transport. Do they have to live in public housing where the sizes of flats have gotten smaller decade by decade since the 1990s? Doesโ€ฆ

Laulan Wong promoted to DPM, now a step closer to becoming official seat warmer for the Lee dynasty!

SINGAPORE: Finance Minister Lawrence Wong will be promoted to Deputy Prime Minister from Jun 13, holding both portfolios concurrently.

The announcement on Monday (Jun 6) comes about two months after Mr Wong was named leader of the People's Action Party's (PAP) fourth-generation or 4G team, paving the way for him to become Singapore's next Prime Minister.

Mr Wong will be one of two Deputy Prime Ministers, joining Mr Heng Swee Keat, 61, who had stepped aside as leader of the 4G team last April, citing his age as the reason. Mr Heng remains the Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies.

Mr Wong, 49, will be the acting Prime Minister in the absence of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

He will also assume responsibility for the Strategy Group within the Prime Ministerโ€™s Office, taking over from Mr Heng.

Lawless Wong most likely to become next PM, Ong Yuck Kung must be heartbroken!!!!!!

SINGAPORE โ€” Finance Minister Lawrence Wong said on Thursday (April 14) that he was humbled and grateful for the trust and confidence of his colleagues, after being named the leader of the fourth generation of Singaporeโ€™s political leadership, or 4G.

โ€œIt is my privilege to be called upon to lead this team. I will do my utmost to uphold this responsibility,โ€ he wrote on Facebook.

โ€œBut as we have been reminded many times, the right to lead cannot be inherited.โ€

Mr Wong said that since 1959, when Singapore held its first General Election as a fully self-governing state, the countryโ€™s model of political leadership has never been about one person, but the team.

โ€œMy colleagues in the 4G leadership have stood shoulder to shoulder with each other in the fight against Covid-19. The experience of the past two years has cemented our cohesiveness and strengthened our resolve to steward Singaporeโ€ฆ
