SINGAPORE โ Leading opposition party, Workersโ Party, has filed 16 Parliamentary Questions for the upcoming Parliament sitting over two controversial issues that have popped up over the past month.
The first issue is the decision by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) to issue stern warnings to six former executives of the Keppel Offshore and Marine Limited (KOM) in lieu of prosecution for offences punishable under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The offences relate to bribe payments to officials of Petrobras, pertaining to rigs-building contracts which Petrobras and/or its related companies had awarded to KOM, which were said to span over more than a decade.
While CPIB states that the matter is โcomplex and transnationalโ, involving multiple authorities and witnesses from several countries. Many have pointed out that KOM had already pleaded guilty to the offences in a plea agreement with the United States Department of Justice (DoJ).

A snowballing controversy involving a lawmaker who resigned after lying in parliament is threatening the Singaporean opposition leader, Pritam Singh, less than 18 months after his party made historic electoral gains with the backing of the city stateโs younger generation.
The saga initially seemed to only involve Raeesah Khan โ a darling among Gen Z and millennial voters โ but an ongoing parliamentary inquiry into the case has dragged Singh and other high-ranking leaders of the Workersโ Party (WP) into the picture.
In a nine-hour testimony last Friday before the parliamentary Committee of Privileges, Singh repeatedly denied suggestions that he acted improperly by failing to take Raeesah to task even though he and two other top party leaders knew within days that her August 3 speech about the police mishandling a sexual assault case contained falsehoods.

The imbecilic Edwin Tong appears a lot more relaxed and in his element during the latest grilling of a much less adversarial Raeesah Khunt. ;)

SINGAPORE: Former Leader of the Opposition Pritam Singh has been moved to a new seat in parliament - no longer directly opposite Prime Minister Lawrence Wong - following his removal as the Leader of the Opposition.
Mr Singh was moved two seats down in the first row, according to a seating plan uploaded on the Singapore parliament website on Tuesday (Feb 3), with Deputy Speaker of Parliament Christopher de Souza taking his previous seat.
Mr Singh will be seated between Members of Parliament Xie Yao Quan and Mariam Jaafar. Mr Xie, who is also Deputy Speaker of Parliament, will be to his right, while Ms Jaafar is to his left.
The change comes after Mr Wong removed the Workers' Party (WP) chief from his role as Leader of the Opposition on Jan 15, a day after parliament voted that Mr Singh was unsuitable to continue in the role after his conviction for lying to a parliamentary committee.
Mr Wong had invited the WP to nominate another MP to fill the role, but the party rejected the offer, saying that the position should be held by the leader of the largest opposition party in parliament.
The Prime Minister's Office later said that the government accepted the decision and that the position would remain vacant "until such time that the WP is ready to nominate someone to take on this responsibility".
When asked about the seat change, the Singapore Parliament directed CNA to Speaker Seah Kian Peng's reading of a letter from the Prime Minister at the start of Tuesday's parliament sitting.
In the letter, Mr Wong informed the House that Mr Singh is no longer Leader of the Opposition.
CNA has also asked Mr Singh for comment on the seat change.
