In a video clip widely circulated online, Mr Ramesh was heard hurling vulgarities at the poor security guard for asking his visitors to pay $10 to park overnight at his condo.
The security guard noted in his report that Ramesh was aggressive towards him and he let him park inside the car park without paying eventually to avoid aggravating the matter.
In a press statement released last night, the Association of Certified Security Agencies strongly condemned Ramesh’s behavior and urged the Attorney-General to investigate the matter and press for a deterrent sentence.
However, being an elite CECA banker invited by the pro-foreigner PAP regime to work in Singapore, it is unlikely that the police will take action against Ramesh.
On the contrary, the security guard may get arrested and charged under Singapore’s new anti-doxxing law for publishing Ramesh’s personal details online.
Ramesh got posted to JP Mumbaili or JP Mangali?
Good news!!!!! Ramesh no longer working for JP Morgan!!!!!

Bankers in Singapore say Ramesh Erramalli video gives them a “bad name”
The viral video of JP Morgan employee Ramesh Erramalli verbally abusing a condo security guard is helping to give bankers a “bad name” in Singapore.
Erramalli’s outburst – he shouted and swore at the guard during a dispute over a $10 parking charge – has triggered an online petition (with more than 35,000 signatures so far) calling on JP Morgan to fire him.
Erramalli has since apologised in person to the guard.
Although some of the outrage has focused on the fact that Erramalli is foreign (he is originally from India), the case has also reinforced perceptions that wealthy bank employees are arrogant, elitist and out of touch with ordinary Singaporeans, say banking professionals we spoke with in Singapore. “The video and the intense reaction to it are giving us a bad name,” bemoans one banker.
Online reaction to the incident has shined a spotlight on class divides in Singapore, especially as white-collar Erramalli’s tirade featured a boast about his condo being worth S$1.5m – a price that is out of reach of most working-class Singaporeans such as the security guard. The Erramalli case has put banking professionals front and centre of this divide.
Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam called the video an example of “modern-day bigotry” and of people having a “sense of entitlement”, but warned against “harassing” Erramalli because the police are handling a complaint made by guard.
Class and entitlement issues are not new to the Singapore banking sector. “I think similar cases to this involving professionals from banks and other well-paid sectors probably happen almost every day,” says another Singaporean banker. Erramalli’s outburst, however awful, just happened to be caught on camera.
“This video is like an old wound reopened,” says the banker, adding that the extent of the online outrage against Erramalli (his academic qualifications have been questioned, for example) is also “troubling”.
Singapore’s class structures may not be as deeply embedded as those in Europe, but people from more privileged family backgrounds – locals and expats alike – are still overrepresented in the finance sector.
Rich young Singaporeans can get jobs at banks more easily because of family connections and the “glamorous, upper-class vibe” they take into interviews, junior bankers told us previously.
While wealthy banking professionals in Singapore are unlikely to kick their extravagant spending habits (think Porsches and Patek Phillippes) anytime soon, the Erramalli case is a warning that what they do and say outside of work can have consequences for their careers, reputations and for the public perception of the finance sector as elitist. The second Singapore banking professional says that social media has made it even more critical for bankers to be “mindful of their actions” away from the office.
Last year a DBS employee sparked a public outcry after posting an image of a ripped Singapore flag on Facebook. Within weeks, DBS said he was “no longer with the bank”.
Erramalli, whose job at JP Morgan is unclear, does not appear to have left the bank. A JP Morgan spokesperson says the firm is continuing to “look into the matter” and has no further comment at this stage. An internal note earlier this week, which was signed by JPM’s Singapore senior country officer Edmund Lee and reported in local media, did not refer directly to the Erramalli incident but reminded staff that they are “expected to demonstrate the highest standards, including respect and dignity for others, in our behaviour and actions inside and outside of the workplace”.

The real reason for Ramesh Erramalli’s sense of self-entitlement
The real issue in the Ramesh Erramalli incident is not Ramesh Erramalli.
Although some online reactions hinted at racism – Ramesh is Indian (foreign one) and the security officers involved are non-Indian and therefore were at the receiving end of an a***shole Indian, never mind the nationality – any kind of bullying by any foreigner, of any race or nationality, of locals of any race MUST NOT be tolerated. Any elected Singapore politician who has been elected by us to represent our interests must make this abundantly and unambiguously clear. If he or she acts otherwise, the politician does not deserve our support or respect.
But first, let us look at the whole thing objectively. I have watched the video. Yes, the security officers were professional, never losing their cool, even as the JP Morgan employee was losing his cool over the after-11 parking fee of $10 for visitors to the condo. And, yes, Ramesh was using expletives but they were not directed at the officers, more at the parking fee and the management. He offered his name and contact number. I think it was partly a case of his losing face since the car was apparently driven by his guest or guests’. And latest report said he has apologised to the security staff for his behaviour. Good for him.
Nevertheless, any kind of boorish behaviour by anyone of any race or nationality should be condemned.
Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugratanam (an Indian, if you have not noticed) said: “What this resident did and said was wrong – at so many levels. It is these examples of modern-day bigotry and a sense of entitlement that the light of Deepavali seeks to dispel … But we should absolutely avoid threatening or harassing the resident concerned. A police report has been made by the security officer, and we should leave it to the Police to handle.” Nicely said.
So we will leave the bad behaviour part of the Ramesh incident and talk about something else which has really been eating Singaporeans.
SM Tharman and the errant JP Morganite each made remarks which touched on some aspects of the growing social divide and Singaporeans’ sense of being abandoned by a government in its pursuit of wealth, plastic equality and false happiness.
The Senior Minister mentioned sense of entitlement. Right. Someone buys a condo and instantly, he is in a different class altogether. Quote from Ramesh: “I bought your f***ing property for $1.5 million, you know? This is $1.5 million, okay?” He added, this is not HDB. Is Ramesh every bit like some Singaporeans? Is he like, as SMRT Feedback by The Vigilanteh puts it, “the Singaporean who would use cleaners and Grab drivers as a barometer of success (my words here: meaning the security staff, Grabbers and cleaners are not worthy of being associated with). He is the Singaporean who wouldn’t share an MRT seat with Bangladeshi construction workers. ..He is a manifestation. He is you.” And The Vigilanteh was supported by Mediacorp actress Jane Rasif who posted a one word comment “Exactly”.
The way that Ramesh dismissed “HDB” simply amplifies a longheld, obviously unfair, perception. HDB flats are pigeonholes housing the local hordes and private housing is for the upper class who should be treated differently as they are entitled to lord it over others not sharing their world.
Why do you think everyone want their children to do well? To get away from the HDB environment into a gated one where they can shut themselves from a world of alleged low-achievers, cardboard uncles and aunties, smelly and dirty lifts, loudmouthed drunken people at coffeeshops, an avalanche of irritating flyers, O$P$ door and wall paintings and a mountain of rules and regulations.
If we think about it, many Singaporeans are probably asking themselves: If foreigners can now get away with or even think about venting their frustrations at locals just doing their work – whether security guards, taxi-drivers or waitresses – how much tougher life will be if our gates are opened to let in another tsunami of foreigners?
Government leaders have been talking about a 10 million population. They should learn from the 2011 General Elections when the voters gave a loud No to the opening of the immigration floodgates.
Everything that takes place outside the Istana takes its cue from the behaviour of Singapore’s leaders.
If the leaders feel they are natural aristocrats, immediately the rest of us become the Eight Riversuites security guards, a convenient punchbag for foreigners who themselves feel they are also aristocrats.
Ramesh said he paid $1.5 million for his property and therefore implied he was entitled to break the rules and set his own. And instead of viewing their entry into politics as a desire to serve, our leaders view it as a “sacrifice” for which they must be compensated. What values are they exemplifying?
And if a noticeable number of top positions, albeit filled by the criteria of merit and track record, are held by people close to or related to the leadership, where does that leave the rest of us? What kind of professional tension and checks will be in place to break group-thinking or prevent abuse or nepotism?
If Ramesh is the foreign equivalent of the ugly Singaporean, the ugly Singaporean is himself the product of a self-entitled leadership and establishment. That is why politicians like Chiam See Tong, Low Thia Khiang and Tan Cheng Bock – who are natural mixers and do not need to prop themselves up with a coterie of equally self-entitled sycophants – have an honourable place in local folklore.
Don’t look to the current group of leaders if you are hoping not to get another Ramesh Erramalli. They are the very reason for his existence in Singapore.

The Temasek Times claims that Ramesh’s “apology” was staged!
JP Morgan Director Ramesh Erramalli’s “apology” was staged as a PR stunt to placate the incensed public, according to an insider source.
Mr Raj Joshua Thomas, the President of the Security Association in Singapore has been under tremendous pressure to bring the controversy to an amicable conclusion after he issued a stern statement condemning Ramesh’s public tirade against the security guard Steven.
Steven was supposedly on duty from 7pm to 7am the next day on 30 October 2019. At about 4pm, he received a call from his manager asking him to have an early dinner and meet at the management office for a “briefing” at 6pm.
When he arrived, he was met by Mr Thomas and Mr Gary Harris from the Association of Certified Security Agencies who informed him that Ramesh would be dropping by the office later to resolve the issue and his duties during his absence would be covered by another colleague.
Steven was advised to put his handphone away and all he needs to do is to listen and Mr Thomas will do all the talking on his behalf. No photos were taken at the meeting. If Ramesh had indeed made up with Steven, why wasn’t a photo taken showing both of them smiling and shaking hands?
At 7pm, journalists from SPH and Mediacorp gathered at the condominium’s guard house entrance as if they were waiting for some major announcements.
The entire meeting lasted about 50 minutes. Steven was advised not to divulge details of the meeting and not to speak to the press. The other security guards were also warned not to post anything about the meeting on their social media accounts or to tell a third party.
After the meeting, Mr Thomas went to speak with the reporters who were seen writing down notes. One hour later, Ramesh’s “apology” was published simultaneously in all the major newspapers.
If Ramesh was really sincere in his apology, he should have visited the guard house to apologize to Steven in person shortly after the incident. Why did he take so long to do so and in addition had to be accompanied by two outsiders?
Furthermore, Ramesh did not pen the apology himself which was broadcast to the public via a third party. It appeared a script was prepared beforehand and the “apology” was meant for the public rather than for Steven.
There are many inaccuracies in Mr Thomas’ post. For example, while Steven recognized Ramesh, they seldom spoke and both do not know the names of each other till the incident during which Ramesh was heard shouting his name out loud to Steven.
We want to hear Ramesh’s apology in his OWN WORDS. Anything less is insincere, fake and unacceptable!

CECA thrust back into the spotlight in the wake of viral incident involving Indian J.P. Morgan employee
Progress Singapore Party chief Tan Cheng Bock's promise that he will call for a review of CECA and Workers' Party politician Gerald Giam's exchange with former Trade and Industry Minister Lim Hng Kiang is trending on social media, after the video of the incident went viral.
The Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) between Singapore and India has been thrust back into the limelight, in the wake of the viral video showing an Indian J.P. Morgan employee berating Singaporean workers.
On Friday night (25 Oct), a video of a man verbally abusing a hapless security officer went viral on social media. In the incident, which reportedly took place at the Eight Riversuites condominium in Bendemeer, the man hurled vulgarities at the elderly guard after being told that guests visiting his condominium unit needed to pay parking fees.
Despite the security guards’ explanation that they are simply enforcing the rules, the condo resident continued to berate the workers. In his expletive-ridden rant, the man bragged to the security officers that he bought his condominium unit for S$1.5 million. He exclaimed: “I buy your f****** property for S$1.5 million you know.”
Netizens subsequently identified the condo resident as Ramesh Erramalli, a foreign talent from India who works at global financial services company J.P. Morgan in Singapore. The incident drew swift backlash and many Singaporeans are calling on J.P. Morgan to sack Ramesh and have him deported back to India.
The incident has also led many Singaporeans to criticise the CECA agreement. Progress Singapore Party chief Tan Cheng Bock’s promise that he will call for a review of CECA and Workers’ Party politician Gerald Giam’s exchange with former Trade and Industry Minister Lim Hng Kiang is trending on social media, after the video went viral.
In Oct 2014, Mr Giam – who was then a Non-Constituency Member of Parliament (NCMP) asked the Mr Lim if he will provide an update on the CECA negotiations and, specifically, whether India is entitled to special access to Singapore’s labour market or banking licences under the terms of CECA.
Mr Giam re-produced the exchange on Facebook on Tuesday (29 Oct):
Signed in 2005 by then-newly minted Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, CECA was negotiated by current Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat, who is expected to take over leadership of the ruling party from PM Lee following the next election.
PM Lee’s predecessor, Goh Chok Tong, bragged last year that he has been credited with starting the “India fever” since he’s been promoting India-Singapore business relations since the 1990s. His admission has led some to believe that Mr Goh may have been one of the key figures pushing a bilateral free-trade agreement with India during his premiership.
The bilateral free-trade agreement has been controversial among locals since it opens the floodgates for Indian nationals to migrate here and compete for jobs with Singaporeans with greater ease. Many locals see this clause as unfair since Singaporeans are less likely to migrate to India in return.
In the agreement, Chapter 9 provides for the movement of people between the 2 countries. In particular, it provides very laxed rules for the so-called “intra-corporate transfer” of employees from 127 sectors. These employees shall be exempted from any labour market testing or economic needs testing, as specified in Article 9.3.
To top it all off, CECA Article 9.6 even allows the “intra-corporate transferees” to bring in their spouses or dependents to work too. In cases where their spouses or dependents are not professionals, they shall be allowed to work in other areas.
CECA led Indian IT companies like Wipro or Infosys to exploit the “intra-corporate transfer” loophole and move a large number of Indian IT workers into Singapore since CECA does not set any quotas and since they do not have to hire a single Singaporean in their Singapore-based subsidiaries.
When unemployment rates for Singaporean PMETs climbed and when Singaporean workers began to complain of discriminatory hiring practices at such firms, the Government responded and began to slow down the approvals of Indian IT professionals to work here.
This did not sit well with the Indian Government.
Times of India reported that work visas for Indian IT professionals to work in Singapore have dropped “to a trickle”, prompting the Indian government to put on hold the review of CECA, citing violation of the trade pact.
In particular, the Indian Government was against Singapore using our “fair consideration framework” to regulate the employment of foreigners in Singapore.“They are doing it despite the CECA clearly stating that there will be no ENT (economic needs test) or quotas on agreed services. This is a violation of the agreement,” warned an Indian official.
That was in 2017. In 2018, Singapore and India successfully concluded the second review of the CECA in the presence of PM Lee and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.
