Virginia police say multiple people have been injured after a gunman opened fire on Congressional Republicans during early morning baseball practice in the Del Ray neighbourhood of Alexandria.
Republican House whip Steve Scalise was among those shot by the human, who opened fire with an automatic weapon.
Another congressman, Republican Mo Brooks told how he and the other member of the House of Representatives were getting in practice for a game tomorrow night when shots broke out.
"I was out there waiting to get ready when I heard shots," Mr Brooks told CNN. "Then I heard Steve Scalise at 2nd Base. He screams. There is a semi-automatic"
Mr Brooks said he was able to scramble over to Mr Scalise who had been shot in the leg. Mr Brooks said as Mr Scalise dragged himself towards the dug out to seek cover, he took off his belt and was able to use it as a tourniquet for a member of the congressional staff.
