Security forces have closed roads in the area
Two Jordanians have been killed and an Israeli wounded in an incident at Israel's embassy in Amman.
Israel's foreign ministry said two workers had arrived to replace some furniture when one of them attacked a security guard with a screwdriver.
One of the workers and the building's landlord were killed and the security guard was injured, it said.
It did not confirm earlier reports of shooting but said the guard had "acted in self defence".
The incident - which came at a time of heightened tension in the region over a Jerusalem holy site - happened in a residential building used by the embassy, Jordanian police say.
The details remain unclear. Israeli authorities imposed reporting restrictions in the immediate aftermath.
The building was sealed off and staff were evacuated.
The heavily protected embassy is located in the Rabiyeh neighbourhood, an affluent part of the capital city.
According to the Vienna convention, the security man has immunity from investigation and arrest.
