I Sacked 6 Pinoy Nationals And 1 Indian National On Friday
On Friday I sacked 6 Pinoy nationals and 1 Indian national at the MNC I work at. The main reason for doing so? Fraud. One of the Pinoys being sacked was a HR personnel, while another was an IT personnel (Indian National). What happened was that these two clowns had colluded in allowing only their own countrymen (mostly Pinoys) to get into the company. Long story short, we had put up job adverts seeking fresh hires, however online resumes sent by Singaporean applicants were tr

No more eating at Social Enterprise Hawker Centres for me.
The best way to preserve the legacy of hawker centres is to constantly patronize your favorite stalls, yes? WRONG. Be mindful of where you spend your moolah. After news about what those social enterprise hawker centres were really up to broke, I've not had meals at any of those venues. These days I make a conscious decision to deny them my business and hit them where it hurts the most: their bottom line. The hawkers are the unfortunate collateral damage in this case and yes m

Business failed and landed heavily in debt - is a 2nd chance ever possible?
It has been a tough time for me after failing in my business venture 3 years back and having landed myself in about 300k worth of debt to banks, suppliers, contractors and relatives.
Being your own boss is tough and often lonely. I started out on my own when I was 31 and had no proper mentors to guide /nurture me. Nobody really cares how crazy your life could get. Most folks naively reckon that being a boss means having plenty of personal time and financial freedom. Eventual

Stinking attitude of SME bosses-fancy complaining about Singaporean hires on national TV
The Indian local (seated second from left in the video) rightly opined that foreigners here are depressing wages of Singaporeans, yet hotelier and restaurateur Mr Loh Lik Peng (boss of Unlisted Collection-seated fourth from left in video) stubbornly insisted hiring foreigners in Singapore incurs higher costs, at the same time refusing to acknowledge the irreparably damaging consequences brought upon by foreigners who were willing to settle for much lesser owing to lesser fina

Singapore Law - In the aftermath of OBike, do we need class action lawsuits?
In Singapore, we don't have class action lawsuits, unlike in the US, where lawyers can gather together and put together an action for a "class" of persons. So, unlike in Singapore where each OBike customer has to sue OBike for their deposit, a lawyer could file a suit on behalf of a "class", that is, all customers who are owed their deposits. The lawyers would then have to disburse the award among the class. I used to think that class action suits were basically "private regu

Advice to my fellow jobless Singaporeans
As cynical as this may sound, locals persistently suffering long term unemployment have PAP's myopic policies to thank for. High costs of living, ever increasing CPF retirement sum requirements to meet , a vastly uneven playing field existing between foreigners and citizens as well as National Service obligations have all played a part in creating a very toxic job market. Meanwhile policymakers and PAP supporters have their fingers in their ears going "lalalallalaal I can't h

University was a complete waste of time
I have come to the realization that I have wasted much precious years studying Computer Science in university. Let me explain myself.
Whatever knowledge and skills I have acquired in school seem entirely irrelevant to what the IT industry (which is constantly booming with new technologies in any case) is seeking presently. They are only interested in hiring folks who can code in newer programming languages, or possess a strong foundation as far as the latest frameworks and

The Singaporean dream has become an illusion – The Angry Ho
In the space of two days last week, I had near-identical conversations with two friends. Both were looking at real estate options, but refused to acknowledge their financial realities. Neither was particularly wealthy but both sought pricey districts. “I don’t think I could live in your area,” one of them said to my suggestion. He offered a long commentary on my estate compared with his expectations. 3 bedrooms, a balcony, an open kitchen. But he didn’t want, nor did he have
